In KYOKUSHIKAI KARATE there are KYU inferior degrees, starting
from 10 KYU and down to 1 KYU and superior DAN degrees, belonging to the black belts.

The meaning of the belt colors:

Hierarchy:
10 KYU - 1 KYU : Kohai (Student)
1 DAN - 2 DAN : Sempai (Instructor)
3 DAN - 4 DAN : Sensei (Teacher)

Progression from a degree to another is made on the basis of a well-established program, valid in all the
Kyokushin Karate Dojo's around the world.
KYU degrees can be given only by possesors of the black belt, as following:
A possesor of a Shodan (1 Dan) can give up to 5 KYU.
A possesor of a Nidan can give up to 3 KYU.
A possesor of a Sandan can give up to 1 KYU.
To obtain DAN degrees several black belts with high levels are required
(to examin the candidates that already have 1 KYU).
