Oyama's wish to restlessly obtain new targets to prove that he is the toughest and strongest man lead to the creation of the toughest and strongest Karate style in existance.
So we can safely asume that Karate Kyokushin created by Oyama are a direct result to his personal experience. In spite of its traditional values, Kyokushin was open to improvements and changes.
Mas. Oyama opened his first dojo in 1953; starting with 1955 he named his style Oyama Ryu. In 1957, despite its tough training, he had already over 700 members.
Members of Oyama's dojo took fighting very seriously. There were almost no restrictions. The fight was pushed to the K.O. or abandon.
In 1964 the name Oyama Ryu is replaced with Kyokushikai (translated into "the last meeting with the supreme truth").
In 1990 Honbu Dojo had over 12 milion members.
